AMC obliterates the movie subscription market with AMC A-List

AMC Theaters has skyrocketed past any competitors today with the unveiling of their own monthly subscription service called AMC A-List.

AMC A-List will offer subscribers the ability to watch 3 movies per week for $19.95 a month. The service also includes advanced ticketing, all premium formats & all the benefits of AMC’s Premiere Stubs membership which allows for 10% off food and drinks, free upgrades on popcorn & drinks & prioritized line access at the box office and concessions. You also gain Stubs points for the monthly fee for A-List, the only caveat being that you forgo the points normally accumulated for movie ticket purchases.

Prior to AMC joining the monthly subscription game, the only service close to their offerings was Sinema. Sinema offers 3 movies a month for a single subscriber for $34.99 (billed annually) , which includes the aforementioned premium formats & advanced ticketing, the upside to Sinema being that you can go to any theater chain, which includes Regal Cinemas new Screen X speciality format. Sinema also offers their members invitations to events such as premiers, galas & special events as a perk for their patronage.

AMC A-List has upset the competition with Movie Pass posting the following Tweet..

“ Heard AMC Theaters jumped on board the movie subscription train. Twice the price for 1/4 the theater network and 60% fewer movies. Thanks for making us look good AMC!”

The Movie Pass model allows for subscribers to watch unlimited movies for $9.99 a months at any theater, however you can’t watch the same movie more than once, which has caused an uproar amongst subscribers.

AMC A-List has made a clear statement to its competitors about how movie subscription services can have a profitable business model and be affordable for subscribers while being rewarding. I personally will be supporting AMC’s A-List when it officially launches on June 26th.
