Anthony Mackie Signs On For 'Altered Carbon' Season 2 As The Lead!

by: James A. Barnes

Netflix has tapped Anthony Mackie to take over the role of Takeshi Kovacs, the lead role portrayed by Joel Kinnaman in the shows first season. Alison Schapker is joining the series as it's executive producer and will also serve as co-showrunner alongside creator/executive producer Laeta Kalogridis who was showrunner for the show's first season.

Altered Carbon is based on the science fiction novels by Richard K. Morgan, and the character of Takeshi Kovacs has had many different bodies, spanning over hundreds of years, and different planets, so the recasting of the lead character was inevitable.

The series will continue to delve into the themes of mortality, identity, and the human soul across longer periods of time and set to explore different worlds across the universe.

Synopsis

Altered Carbon is set centuries into the future when the human mind has been digitized and the soul itself is transferable from one body to the next. Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy who has been imprisoned for 500 years, is downloaded into a future he’d tried to stop.
