Black Ops 4 Won’t Have Single-Player Campaign?

Late Tuesday night a source reported to Polygon that the upcoming Call of Duty entry will not have “a traditional single player campaign.”

From Polygon:

The sources, who asked for anonymity, said that as Black Ops 4’s release date approached, it became evident that development on the single-player campaign wouldn’t be completed. One source said Treyarch has since focused Black Ops 4’s development on expanding multiplayer and the series’ popular Zombies mode. The source described an emphasis on cooperative modes as a potential stand-in for the typical single-player campaign experience.

When asked by Polygon to further elaborate on the rumors, Activision would not give any details or address the rumors and “We look forward to revealing Black Ops 4 on May 17th.”

With this news, it allows for some conjecture as to what this means for Black Ops 4. Given the source, “Charlie Intel”, has an extended track record of correct early features and news of upcoming titles there is a possibility that this can be right again. Personally I want to dissect what it could mean by “traditional” campaign.

  1. It could be like what EA did with Battlefield 1 and have multiple short stories.
  2. There could be episodic entries for the campaign mode like games from Telltale Games or the Hitman game.
  3. They really could be throwing all that energy to make a competent Battle Royale mode that has become overwhelmingly popular in gaming currently.
  4. Charlie could've gotten bad intel this time. *rim shot*
  5. So is this why they could be remastering Modern Warfare 2 but not including the multiplayer?
