Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Movie Review

Mild Spoilers Ahead…

Marvel Studios and Ryan Coogler had to face the impossible task of continuing the story of Wakanda and the Black Panther after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, and although the lack of his presence can be felt throughout the entire film, I think they did a really good job honoring Chadwick’s memory and allowing us to mourn with the characters, it expanded the universe with the introduction of Namor, Talokan and their connection to Vibranium, and explores the political ramifications of T’Challa’s decision to reveal Wakanda’s resources to the rest of the world.

Character Highlights

Angela Bassett is an absolute powerhouse in this film as Queen Ramonda mourns the loss of her son while staying vigilant to defend Wakanda and her resources from the United Nations and Namor and his army.

Letitia Wright has a lot on her shoulders and Shuri feels responsible for not being able to save T’Challa and finding the strength to become the new Black Panther and carry on the symbol that has united the Wakandan people for generations.

Domonique Thorne is a complete scene-stealer as RiRi Williams and the film did a great job introducing the character into the MCU.

Tenoch Huerta was perfectly cast as Namor and Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige did a great job introducing him and the mythos of Talokan into the MCU. Like Killmonger, I also empathized with his motivations to protect his people and preserve their way of life no matter the cost.

Overall “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is a good follow-up to the first film that sets the stage for the future of Namor and Talokan and the United Nations wanting to go to war with Wakanda.
