Henry Cavill Cast As Geralt In Netflix's 'The Witcher' Series

Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt of Rivia for the lead role in Netflix’s series based on the  popular “ The Witcher” series. 

The Witcher source material is a rich story of lore following a monster hunter by the name of Geralt of Rivia. Geralt lives a solitary existence, carefully guarding himself from the vicious characters that exist in this treacherous world. Though he constantly finds himself in situations where he is unwillingly tasked with being a guardian.

 “The Witcher” series began as a series of short stories published by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski in the 1980s. The most recent novel, “Season of Storms,” was published in 2013. The series has been adapted into a popular video game franchise as well as comic books.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich & Alik Sakharov will serve as executive producers with Hissrich serving as the showrunner on the series. Sakharov will also direct (4 episodes) alongside ,  Alex Garcia Lopez (2 episodes), and Charlotte Brändström (2 episodes) for portions of the eight-episode first season. 

This is Cavill’s first television role since his 2010 appearance in the Showtime drama “The Tudors”. Though he’s enjoyed significant success in major film roles, most notably in the DC Universe as Superman.
