Joss Whedon departs Batgirl.

THR reports that Joss Whedon had trouble cracking what the story for a Batgirl movie could be and has decided to depart the film, here's his statement.

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to [DC president] Geoff [Johns] and [Warner Bros. Picture Group President] Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”

It was recently revealed from several sources that Zack Snyder was fired in the middle of production on Justice League. Joss Whedon was brought into the Warner Bros. fold and was said to be writing and directing a Batgirl Movie. Now people are speculating that Joss Whedon was actually brought in to finish Justice League after they fired Zack Snyder from the project, and the annoucement of him directing Batgirl was just WB's way of covering up Zack Snyder being fired.
