Obsession Movie Review
by: James A. Barnes
Curry Barker’s “Obsession” is one of the most unsettling and emotionally exhausting horror films I’ve seen in the last few years.
His use of lighting and framing throughout the film increases the tension and emotional intensity of the scenes. Every frame feels uncomfortable, intimate, and psychologically suffocating in the best possible way.
The film blurs the lines between infatuation, love, friendship, desire, obsession, and selfishness. It doesn’t rely on cheap scares or excessive violence to get under your skin. It slowly pulls you deeper into the emotional instability of the characters and forces you to sit with their decisions, impulses, and unraveling mental states.
Inde Navarrette delivers a career-defining performance as Nikki and absolutely deserves Oscar consideration. She brings so much vulnerability, emotional instability, and intensity to the role that it becomes impossible to look away from her whenever she’s on screen.
I did wish for this…
