Variety is reporting that Spielberg and his production company Amblin Entertainment are partnering with Warner Bros. to produce a Blackhawk film based on the WWII-era fighter pilot squadron, "Blackhawk". The film will also be executive produced by Sue Kroll under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner.

“Blackhawk” made his first appearance in 1941 by Quality Comics before the property was acquired by DC Comics in 1957. Blackhawk was the leader of an elite group of WWII fighter pilots called Blackhawk Squadron.

When talking about Blackhawk, Spielberg had this to say:

“It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring ‘Ready Player One’ to the screen,” Spielberg said. “They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on ‘Blackhawk.'”

"Blackhawk" is being written by David Koepp who has partnered with Spielberg throughout his career writing such films as Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, and War of the Worlds.

No release date has been announced as of yet and with Spielberg currently working on Indiana Jones 5 and "West Side Story"we're not sure when "Blackhawk will go into production.

The partnership of Spielberg and Warner Bros. brought us Ready Player One which is one of my favorite movies of the year so far and I'm looking forward to a Blackhawk film directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg.
