Stop Sending Me Fortnite Invites!

Written by: Bryce Jackson

Since Fortnite became popular, it has become its own phenomenon. Using the popularity and assets from Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, it has become one of the more popular games streamed on Twitch and YouTube as the skill curve, free price tag, and accessibility to consoles opens up the market to more players than its inspiration.

Here’s my problem: I don’t play it nor do I care to. Yet, I keep getting invites on PSN to play this game I don’t own nor have any interest of playing it. It’s super annoying and I actually wish the game would die so I don’t have to get requests anymore.

I’m not knocking those that play it. I’m just not drawn to it. It’s a direct copy of another game which is a mod from a different game. Call me weird, but that degree of diluted originality,  plastered into a game that was struggling to exist beforehand and simplified mechanics isn’t appealing. Maybe I have a weird allegiance to PUBG even though its been a mess of a release on XBOX and still broken in parts on PC, but I would rather watch PUBG gameplay than give Fortnite the time of day.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, I keep getting requests to play and it’s never just one. Multiple requests come in one on top of the other. I’ve gotten 7 requests at one time. I’ve started messaging people that keep sending me requests that I don’t play the game. If they act dumb and send me another, they're getting blocked. There used to be a code where you don’t invite friends to play games they don’t have but apparently that has seemingly gone out the window. Fortnite players seem to just assume everyone they know plays the game and even if they don’t they seem to have this strange narcissism to believe that if they send enough requests, they'll be the one to convert one more person to play.

I don’t care if it’s free. I don’t care if everyone else is playing it. I don’t care if you judge me for the games I choose to play instead of Fortnite. I don’t want to play. Stop sending me invites.
