The Mad Prince's Top 5 Most Anticipated Games from Gamescom 2022 (Opening Night)

BY: ABRAHAM O. LAWAL

So, this is my first time reviewing an event like Gamescom. Actually, this is my first time hearing of the event! But thanks to C4S CEO, JB, it was brought to my attention! Taking place in Cologne, Germany, as well as streaming on Youtube. Occurring from August 24th to August 28th, as a gamer...let me tell you!

Opening Night had me extremely excited for upcoming games I would like to play, not only as a streamer but also as a gaming fan!

After 2 hours of watching Opening Night (thanks to the Youtube ads...), I, the Mad Prince, and many other insidious nicknames have compiled my Top 5 most anticipated games from Opening Night…Enjoy!

P.S. I should include an Honorable Mentions list, huh? So we’ll keep it short and brief!

“Blacktail”: I’m choosing to be an Evil Witch...FYI!

“Destiny 2 Lightfall”: What in the cyberpunk?! Maybe I should return to this game...

“The Outlast Trials”: At some point, I need to purchase the first “Outlast” cause what in the Hostel!?

“Dead Island 2”: Over-the-top zombie-killing game? Why not?

5. Dune: Awakening (Release Date: TBA)

So, this game has had me excited because the film, “Dune” (2021), was an absolute thrill and any video game attached MUST be on my list. Not much was revealed aside from an exciting cinematic monologue regarding “fear” by a man on Arrakis. Throughout the trailer, we see the arid planet of Arrakis, known by any fan of the Dune franchise, as well as a harvester being consumed by a colossal sandworm. By the way, the man proceeds to attack so...we’re about that action then? Say less!

Who doesn’t like an Open World Survival MMO?

4. Under the Waves (Release Date: TBA 2023)

So, Quantic Dream wants us to confront grief while exploring the scariest place on Earth, the deep blue sea. Yea, I can definitely vibe with this! The game follows Stan, a pro-diver who is “trapped” underneath the sea. As Stan, you will explore the oceans to further the story, but also collect necessary items to survive.

I greatly appreciate this game using the oceans to help create a story centered on such a pivotal topic: grief. The oceans of the world offer such beauty and wonder, so as a fan of marine life? Yes, I MUST tap in.

3. Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game (Release date: Early 2023)

Confession time! While I am a horror fan, I have NEVER seen the ‘80s cult classic film, “Killer Klowns from Outer Space”. But this game, worked on by the film creators, the Chiodo Brothers, brings a wonky new take on asymmetrical survival horror. Unlike the beloved “Dead by Daylight” and (personally disappointing) “Evil Dead: The Game”, we veer away from the 4 v 1 (survivors to killer) and engage in 7 v 3 gameplay. Yes! 7 humans versus 3 Klowns. Either begin your horrific alien invasion or band together to save humanity! How does this not strike as a fun game to play with friends? Here is to hoping the party system is more like DBD rather than EV:TG. Abeg...

2. Where Winds Meet (Release date: TBA)

It was the captivating music that did it for me. However, not outdone by the beautiful and realistic scenery of the various environments gamers will be set to explore. The combat system looks great, ensuring the need to utilize movement as well as your environment when facing enemies. Ranging from martial arts to “Where Winds Meet” is an open-world RPG that promises gamers the freedom to play as they desire. After reading an article on IGN, “player freedom” was the common motif for this brand-new IP.

I do love freedom, and I do love the gorgeous, medieval Chinese landscape we will get to enjoy.

1. The Callisto Protocol (Release Date: Dec. 2nd, 2022)

This is truly my MOST anticipated game of any event this holds a slot at. Josh Duhamel? Dismemberment? Gore? HORROR-SURVIVAL!?!? Yea, I am HOOKED! Showing gameplay of combat on Opening Night, I can tell that I’ll be honed in with adrenaline-pumping, as I try to survive versus these horrific enemies that can...MUTATE!?!

Aw hell naw...
